#1 Few words about you?
My name is Fabiano Lacerda Dos Santos. I am 48 years old, married and I have two children. I was born in Brazil, in the city of Criciuma, state of Santa Catarina (south, near Argentina). Since i was a child i have always lived in an environment where family members worked in the construction industry. Today I live in Boston, Massachusetts – USA. I have a company that provides services in the construction area.
#2 How did you develop your interest in photography?
My mother has always been passionate for photography. She was a seamstress, but in her spare time, she liked to photograph me and my sister. She was always positioning us correctly, so that, the photo had a good composition. When I was 8 years old, an uncle came to live with my family. He was a professional photographer, and turned his own bedroom into a Darkroom Lab. That’s when my interest in photography started to spark.
For me photography was “magic”, where a piece of paper that was deposited on a tray containing liquids, which I didn’t know what it was, soon turned into an image. This was very fascinating to me. Since then, photography has always been something I enjoyed doing.
What made you interested in nature photography and why?
I have always loved being outdoors and in nature. My eyes are drawn to birds, animals, mountains, beaches and forests. Over the years I have realized that my love of nature and photography are a perfect match.
Sunrise and sunsets are divine paintings. Nature photography is a way to connect with our creator. When I photograph Nature, I feel like a religious person.
What do you see that makes your photos so beautiful?
The combination of colors, shadows, and light. I sometimes like to capture what is not noticed, or what the eye does not see. I love to discover beauty that didn’t previously exist.
Please share your post-processing methods.
Every photo is different. I don’t follow a set of strict post-processing methods. The majority of my photos are edited using Lightroom. I try to reduce the highlights and darks, and sometimes increase the white. It’s nothing special.
#6 Who are your favorite photographers?
Sebastiao Salgado and Serge Ramelli
What is the #7 thing that you learned from photography and would like to share with readers?
Photography is not only magic but also Art. We are Artists and not just photographers. We create Art from what is already Art. It’s a different way of transforming a moment into an image.
#8 What has been the most flattering compliment you have received?
It’s always nice to get compliments. But the ones I enjoy the most are those that say: “This photo looks like a painting”. Or “You should work for a publication”.
What are your favorite photography books?
Photography essentials: A visual Guide. Serge Ramelli.
#10 What is your personal motto or slogan?
All things can be beautiful. Transform beauty into Art. The Art of recording an unforgettable moment in your life.
What are your interests and hobbies outside of photography?
I love to cook. Cooking is a creative outlet for me, just like photography. I like to travel, hike and see new places. But, I also enjoy returning to places that have captured my attention for their beauty.
Thank you for giving 121 Clicks the opportunity to interview with you. What final words would you like to share with our readers?
Take pictures of everything you find beautiful. It is not my way to see the world, but yours. You can make something unique, that’s yours, in a scene you create. Use your angles and compositions to do this. This moment won’t be repeated. This moment is yours to freeze forever.
