Anna Forsterling, a Fine Art Portrait photographer from Dresden in Germany. According to her, “I try my best to make the pictures look as natural as I can.” No Make-Up, no jewelry. The human presence is the most important feature in a portrait. A second point that I hold is timelessness. “I want my images to be independent and free of trends, conventions, and mainstream.”
Thank you, Anna, for accepting the invitation. Please continue reading…
Can you please introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Anna and I’m a portrait photographer from Dresden, Germany.
How did you first discover photography?
It was only six years ago, when I started taking conscious photographs that I realized how much I had missed. In the year following my graduation, I did a school internship in Dresden with a photographer who taught me how to use a camera.
My mother then gave me her old SLR with the standard lens, and I started to photograph landscapes, animals, and plants. I realized quickly that an 18-55mm was not going to be enough. So I bought a really good macro lens, laid down in fields, meadows and forests, and scanned every little animal.
After deciding to pursue a three-year course, photography became a big part of my daily life. I began to devote myself to portrait photography during my studies and I still love her today.
What would you say about your photographic vision and style? What is the feeling you want to create with your photographs?
I always try to be as natural as possible when taking pictures. No Make-Up, no jewelry. The human presence is the most important feature in a portrait. A second point that I hold is timelessness. I want to create pictures that are independent and free of conventions, trends and mainstream.
How do you create such a soulful feeling in your portraits?
I would not respond. It depends on the people’s emotionality and feelings when they see the photo. When I photograph people, I always try to capture the unique and special moment.
How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh?
I view a lot of pictures and figure out the intention of the artist’s picture. I also get a lot of inspiration walking through the environment. There are always small things that delight me help to keep focused on my goals. Because having enough inspiration makes me motivated as much as feeling confident in my doing. Also completely new ideas can arise.
