I believe that a photo should tell a story, or at least prompt the viewer to interpret it. I try to include elements of surprise and interest, contrasts and similarities, and idiosyncrasies in my photos. To me, street photography is more than just taking pictures of people or scenes in the streets. It is about capturing the essence, emotions, stories and culture of the moment. These serve as a testament of time to the future. Street photographers need to understand the history, culture and social issues surrounding the people and places they photograph.
As a street photographer who is always learning, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s work continues to inspire me. Vivian Maier’s, Fan Ho’s, and Maciej Dkowicz’s captivating photos also have a profound influence on me. Raghubir Rai and Raghu Singh’s timeless works are a constant source of inspiration in the Indian context. Vineet Godbole and Prashant Vohra, who have contemporary approaches, inspire me.

I am a senior manager in an Indian Edutech Business located in Kolkata. I have spent the last 9 years practicing visual storytelling in my role as a street and documentary photographer. I am a street and documentary photographer who focuses on capturing people’s lives from different socio-economic backgrounds.
Street photography was the first thing I tried, and it brought me true satisfaction. The unique and fleeting moments, as well as the interplay between success and failure, resonated deeply with me. I realized that this was my path. My photography allows me to share my own personal view of the world, and I embark on a self-discovery journey.
